Frequently Asked Questions

What HPE networking switch series do you stock?

Our refurbished HPE switch range spans the full Aruba CX portfolio and legacy HP ProCurve range. The Aruba CX 6000 and CX 6100 series cover entry-level access switching for branch offices and SMB environments. The CX 6200 and CX 6300 series offer stackable, PoE+-capable access switching for mid-to-large enterprise campuses, including High Power PoE models with 60W per port. The modular CX 6400 and CX 8400 chassis switches are suited to campus aggregation, core, and data centre deployments, supporting up to 25GbE, 100GbE, and 400GbE depending on line card selection. The CX 9300 provides a 25.6 Tbps fixed-configuration option for high-performance data centre spine and core roles. We also stock legacy HP ProCurve switches for expanding businesses, including the 2500, 2600, 2800, 5300, and 5400 series. If you need a specific model not currently listed, contact our team and we’ll check availability.

What is the difference between Aruba CX switches and HP ProCurve switches?

HP ProCurve was HPE’s original switching brand, running the ProVision (later rebranded AOS-Switch) operating system. These switches are reliable, widely deployed, and still fully functional, but they represent an older software architecture with a traditional CLI and no cloud-native management capabilities. The Aruba CX range is HPE’s current-generation switch portfolio, running AOS-CX (a modern, database-driven operating system with a built-in time-series database), REST API, Python-scriptable Network Analytics Engine, and support for HPE Aruba Networking Central cloud management. The two ranges run different operating systems and cannot be combined into the same VSF stack, but they can coexist and interoperate within the same network using standard protocols such as 802.1Q VLANs, LACP, and LLDP. For organisations currently running ProCurve infrastructure and considering a migration path, our team at ITinStock can advise on compatible Aruba CX models before you order.

What is the difference between Aruba VSF and VSX, and which do I need?

VSF (Virtual Switching Framework) and VSX (Virtual Switching Extension) are both HPE Aruba technologies for connecting multiple switches to behave as a single logical device, but they are designed for different layers of the network. VSF is used on access-layer switches and combines up to 8 switches into one virtual switch with a single control plane, single management IP, and single configuration. If the master switch fails, a standby takes over, though there may be a brief interruption. VSF is simpler to configure and ideal for scaling access-layer port density cost-effectively. VSX is used on aggregation and core switches and pairs exactly two switches in an active/active configuration where both switches process traffic simultaneously. VSX provides faster, hitless failover and supports non-disruptive software upgrades, making it the right choice for high-availability core and data centre deployments where any interruption is unacceptable.

Which HPE Aruba switches support Power over Ethernet (PoE), and how much power do they provide?

PoE support is available across a wide range of Aruba CX access switches. The CX 6000 series provides Class 4 PoE at up to 740W total across 24 or 48-port models, suited to deployments with standard PoE devices such as IP phones and basic access points. The CX 6200 series extends this with 802.3at PoE+ support at up to 1,440W total, including models with 60W per-port High Power PoE for high-demand devices. The CX 6300 High Power PoE models similarly deliver up to 60W per port, and feature HPE Smart Rate multi-gigabit Ethernet ports (supporting 1G, 2.5G, and 5G) on the same physical RJ45 port, which is useful for Wi-Fi 6 access points that can take advantage of multi-gigabit backhaul without requiring fibre uplinks. When selecting a PoE switch, total PoE budget across all connected devices is as important as per-port wattage. Our team at ITinStock can help identify the right model for your PoE requirements.
