What is the difference between the Supermicro BigTwin, FatTwin, TwinPro, and MicroCloud?
Each product line within the Supermicro Twin family is optimised for different workload requirements and density targets. Do Supermicro node servers require shared infrastructure to operate, or can individual nodes run independently?
Each node in a Supermicro Twin family system is logically independent; it runs its own operating system, has its own CPUs, memory, and storage, and can be managed separately. However, nodes do rely on the shared chassis for power delivery and cooling. This means the chassis and its power supply units (PSUs) must be installed and operational for any node to function. Unlike Supermicro’s SuperBlade platform, Twin family nodes do not require separate connection blades or management modules; the architecture is simpler, with nodes connecting directly into the chassis midplane.
