The Importance of FUJITSU Rails

FUJITSU rails for rack-mounted servers are crucial for housing your servers safely. Not only do rack rails help with the organisation of these servers in a server rack or cabinet, but they help the airflow of your rackmount servers to keep them cool and operating smoothly.

Beyond just holding servers in place, FUJITSU server rails are the unsung heroes of the server room, supporting the weight of valuable hardware and allowing for smooth installation.

Most of all, FUJITSU server rails help with the maintenance of your rack servers. That’s because they slot onto the sides of your servers and enable them to be easily slotted into, and from, your server racks. Should there be any issue with your server, that means the attached server rails allow easy access to the server for repair, modification or removal.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Are FUJITSU Rackmount Rails Used For?

FUJITSU rackmount rails are designed to securely mount FUJITSU servers and other compatible equipment within a server rack. They allow the server to slide into position inside the rack cabinet while providing proper support and alignment.

These rails help ensure servers are installed safely and can also make maintenance easier, as many rail kits allow servers to slide out for servicing without needing to fully remove them from the rack.

What types of Fujitsu PRIMERGY rack rail kits are available?

Fujitsu's rail kits for PRIMERGY servers are branded under the RMK (Rack Mount Kit) naming system, with two primary variants. The RMK-F1 is designed for servers up to 2U in height and a maximum weight of 35 kg, and is the most commonly found kit on the refurbished market, covering the majority of PRIMERGY RX-series rack servers such as the RX1330, RX2530 and RX2540 generations. The RMK-F2 is designed for servers over 2U in height or weighing up to 50 kg, making it appropriate for larger chassis such as the RX4770 and other higher-density models.

Within the RMK-F1 family, there are two key subtypes: the Slide-In rail, which offers partial extraction and is suited to environments where servers are installed and left in place, and the Drop-In rail, which offers full telescopic extraction and is designed for environments where regular access to the rear of the server is required. The Drop-In variant supports full extraction of up to 815mm and is available with a Cable Management Adapter (CMA) for toolless mounting of cable arms.

What does QRL mean on Fujitsu rail kits, and do I need it?

QRL stands for Quick Release Lever, and it refers to the mechanism used to detach the server from the outer rail assembly once it has been slid fully out of the rack. The RMK-F1 QRL kit for PRIMERGY servers includes one right rail, one left rail, and two inner rails, with quick release levers allowing the server to be detached from the rails without tools. This is particularly useful in environments where servers need to be removed from the rack entirely for servicing, as it eliminates the need to unscrew or dismantle the rail assembly to lift the server free. Rail kits without QRL are available as a lower-cost option and retain the server on the inner rails even when fully extended, which is adequate for in-rack servicing where the server does not need to be fully removed. For most enterprise and data centre environments, the QRL variant is the preferable choice as it speeds up hardware access and reduces the risk of damage during servicing. All QRL-equipped kits on the refurbished market are identified by the QRL designation in the product name and the Fujitsu part number (S26361-F2735-Lxxx series).

Are Fujitsu PRIMERGY rail kits compatible with non-Fujitsu racks?

Yes, in most cases. Fujitsu PRIMERGY rail kits are designed with a vario carrier system that supports installation in both Fujitsu PRIMECENTER racks and third-party racks and the rails themselves are compatible with round hole, square hole and threaded (10-32) rack uprights — the three standard hole types used across all major rack manufacturers including APC, Rittal, Dell and CPI. The adjustable rack mounting depth on RMK-F1 kits typically covers a pillar distance range of 559mm to 914mm, accommodating most standard 19-inch four-post rack depths. One practical consideration is that some Fujitsu rail kits include a bracket specifically for asymmetric racks, such as the Fujitsu PRIMECENTER M1 in its asymmetric configuration. This bracket is only relevant if installing into an asymmetric enclosure and can be disregarded for standard symmetric rack deployments, though. If you are installing a PRIMERGY server into a non-Fujitsu rack, check the internal rack depth against the rail kit specification.

How do I identify the correct Fujitsu rail kit for my PRIMERGY server?

Fujitsu uses a consistent part number format for its rail kits: the S26361-F2735-Exxx series for kits supplied factory-installed with a server, and the S26361-F2735-Lxxx series for kits ordered separately as loose accessories.
The distinction between "E" and "L" in the part number indicates whether the kit is shipped with the server (E) or as a separate loose delivery (L). Both are functionally identical, so when purchasing a refurbished rail kit separately, you will typically see the L-series part number. Beyond the RMK-F1/F2 designation, the kit name will also indicate the rail style (Slide-In or Drop-In), whether a CMA adapter is included, and whether QRL is fitted.

The safest way to identify the correct kit is to cross-reference your server's model and generation against Fujitsu's system configurator documentation for that specific server, which lists all compatible rail kit order codes.
