Dell Blade Enclosures

Every Dell blade server needs a Dell blade enclosure, designed to house and protect high-density compute systems. Each enclosure helps your Dell PowerEdge blade servers share power, cool them effectively and manage cables within a single chassis.

At ITinStock, we stock a comprehensive range of refurbished Dell blade enclosures such as the Dell EMC PowerEdge M1000e and the MX7000 enclosure. Browse our selection below or contact us for help finding the right blade enclosure for you.

Benefits of Dell Blade Enclosures

Dell blade enclosures encase your Dell blades, housing them to power your business. One of their key benefits is that all the power needed for your blades runs through the end of the enclosure, meaning they act as a centralised powerhouse. Not only that, but they also help cool your blade servers and can be stacked in large database environments.

Dell’s has a couple of blade enclosures in its portfolio. The first is the PowerEdge M1000e, which is a 10U blade enclosure with six hot-plug power supplies, nine hot-swappable fan modules, and up to six I/O modules across three fabric slots (for flexible Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and InfiniBand connectivity). On the other hand, the PowerEdge MX7000 is a 7U newer generation modular enclosure that supports up to 8 single-width or 4 double-width compute sleds, connecting each compute sled directly to its I/O modules through mezzanine expansion cards.

We have plenty of Dell blade enclosures at ITinStock, so why not take a look?

Frequently Asked Questions

What Dell blade enclosures do ITinStock stock?

We stock a broad selection of refurbished Dell PowerEdge blade enclosures. We stock M1000e and MX7000 chassis enclosures, CMC and MX9002m management modules, and a range of I/O and networking modules for the enclosed servers. Stock levels vary, so please contact our team for current availability or to discuss a specific configuration.

What is the difference between the Dell PowerEdge M1000e and MX7000 enclosures?

The M1000e is Dell’s established 10U blade enclosure, supporting up to 16 half-height blade server modules across a traditional midplane architecture. It is a mature, cost-effective platform with wide blade compatibility, supporting modules from the 10th through to the 14th generation of PowerEdge servers. The MX7000 is Dell’s next-generation 7U modular enclosure where each compute sled connects directly to I/O modules via mezzanine expansion cards, enabling higher networking speeds, greater flexibility as networking technology evolves, and a simpler upgrade path. The MX7000 supports up to 8 single-width sleds and is designed for at least three future processor generations, making it the better choice for organisations planning long-term infrastructure investment. The two platforms are not cross-compatible; blade modules designed for the M1000e cannot be used in the MX7000, and vice versa.

Do Dell blade servers require a separate enclosure to operate?

Yes. Dell PowerEdge blade servers cannot operate independently. They require a compatible chassis enclosure to provide power, cooling, networking, and management infrastructure. M-series blade servers (such as the M620, M630, and M640) are designed for the PowerEdge M1000e or VRTX enclosures, while MX-series compute sleds (such as the MX740c and MX840c) are designed for the PowerEdge MX7000 chassis. It is important to verify chassis compatibility before purchasing, as the two platforms are not interchangeable. If you need help matching blade servers to a compatible enclosure, our team is happy to advise.

How do refurbished Dell blade enclosures differ from new ones?

Refurbished Dell blade enclosures are pre-owned units that have been inspected, cleaned, tested, and verified to be in full working order before resale. At ITinStock, every server undergoes rigorous testing to ensure it meets reliable operational standards. The key differences from new units are the lower price and that there may be some cosmetic wear on the chassis or blade carriers. Our well-refurbished Dell blade enclosures deliver the same enterprise-grade performance as new, with access to the same hardware capabilities too.
