What rack depth do I need for my APC NetShelter enclosure?
Rack depth is one of the most important and overlooked specifications when choosing an APC enclosure. APC NetShelter racks are available in three primary depths: 900mm, 1,070mm and 1,200mm. Modern 1U and 2U rackmount servers from Dell, HP and others typically have cable connectors and power supplies at the rear, meaning a usable internal mounting depth of around 800–900mm is needed. The 1,070mm depth (as found on the standard AR3100 NetShelter SX 42U) accommodates virtually all standard 1U–4U servers and leaves adequate clearance for rear cable management. The deeper 1,200mm variants are better suited to high-density blade enclosures and converged infrastructure chassis with extended rear connectivity. The 900mm depth is appropriate for networking equipment, patch panels and shallower appliances.
