Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mix Dell PowerConnect and PowerSwitch switches in the same network?

Yes, in most cases. Dell PowerConnect and PowerSwitch switches both support industry-standard protocols including IEEE 802.1Q VLANs, 802.3ad Link Aggregation (LACP), Spanning Tree (STP/RSTP/MSTP), and LLDP, which means they can coexist and interoperate within the same network infrastructure. However, PowerConnect and PowerSwitch N-Series switches run different operating systems. PowerConnect models run a proprietary VxWorks or Marvell-based OS. N-Series switches run Dell Networking OS6. PowerConnect and PowerSwitch can’t be combined into the same switch stack. Stacking is only supported between switches within the same series (for example, N3000 with N3000E). If you are expanding an existing PowerConnect network and want to know whether a specific PowerSwitch model will interoperate, our team at ITinStock can advise on compatibility before you order.

What is a network module, and what types do you stock?

A network module is a hardware component that slots into a compatible switch, router, or chassis to add or extend its functionality. Common types include uplink modules (which add higher-speed or additional uplink ports to a fixed switch), line cards (which populate the port slots of a modular chassis switch or router with a specific port type and speed), Fibre Channel expansion modules (which add native FC ports to an Ethernet switch for SAN connectivity), and management modules (which provide the control plane, management interface, and supervisor functions for a multi-slot chassis). We stock all of these types across brands including Cisco (Nexus, Catalyst, and UCS modules), Dell (PowerConnect and PowerSwitch add-on modules), HPE (FlexNetwork and FlexFabric modules), Juniper (EX and MX Series MIC and PIC cards), Extreme Networks (Alpine and Summit modules), Supermicro (AOC add-on cards), and Brocade Foundry Networks (XFP and expansion modules). If you need a specific module not currently listed, contact our team and we will check availability.

What warranty do you offer on refurbished networking equipment?

All refurbished networking equipment includes a 3-year warranty. Extended warranty options are available for organisations requiring longer coverage periods or enhanced support levels. Our warranty ensures you receive reliable, tested equipment with expert advice backing your investment. Warranty terms cover hardware failures and defects, which will be replaced wherever possible if our technicians cannot help diagnose and fix any hardware related issues you have throughout the coverage period.

How quickly can you deliver?

UK deliveries typically arrive next day via DHL Express or FedEx. We also offer European and international shipping with delivery timeframes varying by destination. Smaller pieces of IT hardware, such as components, ship quickly whilst larger items may require additional handling time. We are happy to discuss more specific delivery estimates based on your location. We can even same day items for the most urgent requirements!
