Dell Networking Switches

Dell networking switches intelligently direct data traffic between multiple devicesDell networking cover everything from compact, quiet office switches to high-density data centre fabrics operating at 400GbE. Whether you’re refreshing a branch office or upgrading a data centre, Dell has a layered switch for you.

At ITinStock, we stock a range of high-quality new and refurbished Dell networking switches, from the quiet office PowerSwitch N1100 Series through to the high-performance data centre PowerSwitch S-Series (supporting up to 400GbE), as well as legacy Dell PowerConnect switches for businesses maintaining existing Dell network infrastructure.

Benefits of Dell Networking Switches

Dell networking switches learn the MAC address of devices on each of its ports, then sends data only to the specific port where its intended recipient is connected. In a Dell-specific data centre, Dell networking switches will work natively within the infrastructure too, meaning compute, storage and networking can all be managed from a single interface.

Dell has several networking switch types available. The Dell PowerSwitch N-Series is designed to cover the full range of campus and office networking requirements under a single, consistent management experience. The N3000 and N3000E series even support stacking of up to 12 switches, managed from a single IP address. Meanwhile, the PowerSwitch S-Series brings high-performance data centre switching from 1GbE through to 400GbE in a fixed-configuration, top-of-rack form factor. Both the N-Series and S-Series Dell switches include all Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching and routing features out of the box. Why not check out our full range of Dell networking switches?

Why Choose Refurbished Dell Networking Switches from ITinStock?

At ITinStock, we are happy to discuss any bespoke configurations for your Dell networking setup, whether that’s a specific port count, power and cooling options, uplink speed, or stacking configuration. Each of our refurbished Dell switches undergoes rigorous testing, where all ports are verified for connectivity and throughput, firmware is checked and updated where required, and each unit is reset to factory defaults before dispatch. We can deliver quickly to the UK and worldwide using our courier partners. Our expert support team are on hand to help with any pre-sales questions and compatibility queries you may have.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Dell’s N-Series and S-Series switches?

The N-Series and S-Series are designed for different parts of the network. The N-Series is designed as Dell’s campus and office switching models, meaning they’re optimised for access-layer and aggregation deployments where PoE and simplified stacked management are the priority. N-Series switches run Dell Networking OS6 and support stacking of up to 12 units under a single management IP. The S-Series is Dell’s data centre switching family, meaning they’re optimised for top-of-rack server and storage connectivity, spine-leaf fabrics, and high-throughput environments. S-Series switches support advanced data centre protocols including VXLAN, EVPN, and VLT, and many models carry the ‘-ON’ Open Networking suffix, meaning they support alternative network operating systems such as Enterprise SONiC or third-party OS options via ONIE. As a general guide: if you are networking end users, phones, and access points, the N-Series is the right family; if you are networking servers, storage, and building data centre fabrics, the S-Series is the right choice.

What does the ‘-ON’ suffix mean on Dell PowerSwitch models?

The ‘-ON’ suffix stands for Open Networking. It indicates that the switch supports the Open Network Install Environment (ONIE), which is a small bootloader that enables the installation of any compatible network operating system at the time of deployment. This means you are not locked into Dell’s own OS: you can choose to run Dell’s OS10, Dell’s Enterprise SONiC Distribution, or a third-party NOS such as Cumulus Linux, SONiC community builds, or others from the growing open networking ecosystem. This is particularly valuable for organisations that want to standardise their network OS across a multi-vendor hardware environment, or that want the flexibility to migrate their software stack in the future without replacing their physical hardware. Dell PowerSwitch models without the ‘-ON’ suffix come pre-loaded with Dell’s own OS and do not support alternative operating systems.

Which Dell switches support Power over Ethernet (PoE), and how much power do they provide?

PoE and PoE+ support is available across several Dell N-Series models. The N1500 Series introduces PoE+ for small business and edge deployments, while the N2000 and N3000 Series offer PoE+ across 24 or 48-port configurations suited to mid-sized enterprise environments. The N3048EP-ON is Dell’s most capable PoE access switch, providing PoE+ at up to 30.8W on all 48 ports and up to 60W on the first 12 ports for high-power devices — such as Wi-Fi 6 access points, multi-directional PTZ cameras, and digital signage displays — with a 1,100W power supply included. When selecting a PoE switch, it is important to calculate your total PoE power budget across all connected devices, not just the per-port wattage. Our team at ITinStock can help you identify the right model for your PoE requirements.

Can I mix Dell PowerConnect and PowerSwitch switches in the same network?

Yes, in most cases. Dell PowerConnect and PowerSwitch switches both support industry-standard protocols including IEEE 802.1Q VLANs, 802.3ad Link Aggregation (LACP), Spanning Tree (STP/RSTP/MSTP), and LLDP, which means they can coexist and interoperate within the same network infrastructure. However, PowerConnect and PowerSwitch N-Series switches run different operating systems. PowerConnect models run a proprietary VxWorks or Marvell-based OS. N-Series switches run Dell Networking OS6. PowerConnect and PowerSwitch can’t be combined into the same switch stack. Stacking is only supported between switches within the same series (for example, N3000 with N3000E). If you are expanding an existing PowerConnect network and want to know whether a specific PowerSwitch model will interoperate, our team at ITinStock can advise on compatibility before you order.
